stand

“Stand firm in the Lord…” (Philippians 4:1) “Stand firm in the will of God…” (Colossians 4:12) “Stand firm and do not let yourselves be burdened by the yoke of slavery…” (Galatians 5:1) “It is the gospel on which you have taken your stand…” (I Corinthians 15:1) “It is by faith you stand firm…” (II Corinthians 1:24) “Resist the devil, standing firm in the faith…” (I Peter 5:9) “Stand fast in the grace of God…” (I Peter 5:12)

There are more instructions to stand, but here is a passage from Paul that lifts our eyes to the One on the throne: “Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” (II Corinthians 1:21-23)

Look what God has done! “It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus…” (I Corinthians 1:21) “Because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus…” (Ephesians 2:4-6)

God wants us to see and believe what He has done, what He is doing, and what He has promised to do. He reveals His truth and we can stand confidently in His Word:

  • I make you stand firm in Christ
  • I have anointed you
  • I have set My seal of ownership on you
  • I have put My Spirit in your heart
  • I have guaranteed what is to come
  • I have made you alive in My Son
  • I have saved you by My grace
  • I have raised you up with Christ
  • I have seated you with Me in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus

‘Praise God from whom all blessings flow…’

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:1-2

“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!” James 5:7-9
