Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see Him, since Jesus was coming that way.<\/p>\n

When Jesus reached the spot, He looked up and said to him, \u201cZacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.\u201d So he came down at once and welcomed Him gladly.<\/p>\n

All the people saw this and began to mutter, \u201cHe has gone to be the guest of a \u2018sinner\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, \u201cLook, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jesus said to him, \u201cToday salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.\u201d (Luke 19:1-10)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This salvation story began with a \u2018look\u2019. Then Jesus expressed the intent to visit an unpopular man, knowing full well He would be criticized\u2026 it had happened before.<\/p>\n

At another tax collector\u2019s house (Levi\u2019s), the religious asked: \u201cWhy do you eat and drink with tax collectors and \u2018sinners\u2019?\u201d Jesus answered them, \u201cIt is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.\u201d (Luke 5:30-32)<\/p>\n

Jesus \u2018looked\u2019 at His accusers too. Such critics were also in need of His fellowship so He spoke words intended to jolt them out of their false security. Jesus looked directly at them and asked, \u201cThen what is the meaning of that which is written: \u2018The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone\u2019? Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.\u201d (Luke 20:17-18)<\/p>\n

When Jesus looks at me, I hope He sees one looking for Him. And I pray I\u2019ll have the humility to receive His message and respond with joy\u2026 like Zacchaeus.<\/p>\n

When I look at others, I want to see what Jesus sees: a man, woman, boy, or girl who God created and loves. Every person has a story\u2026 and every person needs our Savior.<\/p>\n

One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer \u2014 at three in the afternoon. Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, \u201cLook at us!\u201d So the man gave them his attention expecting to get something from them.<\/p>\n

Then Peter said, \u201cSilver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.\u201d Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man\u2019s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.
